Armed citizens can overcome

Once again, the Press' bias or lack of world history distorts your view of guns in America. ("An incentive to turn in guns," June 10.) The editorial states that people who believe that guns would protect them against criminals or government are delusional.

A brief history lesson: A bunch of farmers and blacksmiths with the aid of the French were able to defeat the armies of the British Empire and the United States of America was born. The Germans invaded Yugoslavia in World War II, yet never controlled it because of the civilian resistance. The defeat of the French and U.S. armies in Vietnam by a nation of rice farmers that lacked a Navy and Air Force yet managed to be the victors. The Russian defeat in Afghanistan by a bunch of sheep herders. These all prove that an armed citizenry can and has defeated some of the most powerful nations throughout history.

The reason we have the most gun deaths in the world is simple: We are the most free nation. People are going to rob and brutalize others with the help of a firearm. There will always be tragic accidents. However, no place provides the freedom and opportunity to enrich our lives better than the United States, courtesy of the Second Amendment.
