Libertarian candidates for two Monmouth County freeholder seats charge
the incumbent Republicans with "wasting $30,000 of taxpayer money" on the
county's "Guns for Cash" program. Candidates Virginia Flynn and Robert
Hull ridicule the program as ineffective and nonproductive. "If someone
wants to get rid of a firearm and doesn't want to deal with a gun shop,"
the Libertarians said, "its fine to turn it into the police. But why must
the taxpayers pay for it?" Guns, said the candidates, are not a problem
"in and of themselves" and gun possession is constitutionally guaranteed.
Disarming peaceful citizens "assists criminals," they said.
