Freeholders decide to spend

9.66 Million tax dollars on

Ferry Project

The Monmouth County Freeholders have decided to spend an estimated 9.66 million dollars on a ferry project in the Belford section of Middletown. This has been a pet project of long time Freeholder Director Harry Larrison, Jr. (R) who has pushed for this project for over 10 years. The county will spend 8.5 million in constructing a two slip terminal at the end of Compton's Creek, and another 1.66 million in upgrading existing roadways to accomodate the anticipated increase in traffic. The residents of the Belford section are opposed to this project, and despite the fact that only one bidder answered the Freeholders' nationwide call for proposals, they are going ahead with this project.
