Who We Are

The Libertarian Party is America's third largest political party. While our presidential candidates may not generate the vote totals or publicity of those of other alternate parties, we are a broad-based national party and not a vehicle for presidential wannabes.

For example, there are approximately 300 libertarians in public office nationwide, more than all other "third parties" combined. In the 2000 general election we ran candidates in a majority of Congressional districts, something no third party has done since the Twenties, and our candidates won a cumulative vote total of 1.64 million, the most ever for a third party. Plus our 22 wins in local races is more than all other minor parties combined.

The LP stands for small government, less taxes and free market solutions to our nation's problems. Liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, seek to use government power to impose their social and economic agendas. Consequently our property rights and personal freedoms are under increasing attack from an ever growing government which seeks to dictate every aspect of our personal lives.

Libertarians of Monmouth County engages in a wide variety of activity all designed to build a viable, grassroots party organization in our county. This includes running [candidates] for election, but we do much more such as this website, our county newsletter, [Shore Liberty], and a weekly cable television program, [Third Point of View]. We hold demonstrations, sponsor public lectures and meetings and conduct outreach efforts, such as our booth at the annual Monmouth County Fair.

You can learn of upcoming Monmouth activities by visiting the Events page. To receive periodic E-mail updates send a request to PDB10752@aol.com. You may also request a free E-mail [subscription] to Shore Liberty. Our county meetings are held the second Sunday of every month at the New School, 301 Middle Rd., Holmdel. We hold an informal brunch at 11:30 a.m. followed by a business meeting at noon. These meetings are an opportunity to meet local activists, have your questions answered and join in county activities.
